Mikkey Dee Says Motörhead Won’t Ever Return with “Some Other F*cking Idiot”

Mikkey Dee Says Motörhead Won’t Ever Return with “Some Other F*cking Idiot”...

Nearly eight years after his passing, the specter of the great Lemmy Kilmister still looms large over the rock and metal world. Such an indelible personality and performer is impossible to replace, after all. So when it came to discussing whether Motörhead would ever reunite with someone else taking up the frontman role during a recent interview with Chaoszine, drummer Mikkey Dee did not mince his words.

“I said, ‘We will never, ever get back together and replace Lemmy. That’s impossible.’ I said, ‘But doing little constellations, doing some tribute stuff, that’s great.’ That’s very, very different. And I think [the press] said something, ‘Mikkey will never play Motörhead [songs] again.’ … I said that’s not what I said at all. Of course I will play Motörhead.

“But I will never be a part of trying to put Motörhead as a band out there again with some other fucking idiot supposed to take Lemmy’s place. So that’s all I said. But to do [Mikkey Dee with Friends] — fantastic. And, of course, we’d like to plan something bigger than this [as a tribute to Lemmy] in the future, hopefully.”

Ever since Lemmy’s passing, the surviving members of Motörhead have gone on to do their own things. Guitarist Phil Campbell went on to release a solo album before starting Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, while Dee went on to join The Scorpions and start another side project called Mikkey Dee with Friends.

Though some bands like The Black Dahlia Murder and Pantera have continued on after bandmates have passed away, it’s sounding like Motörhead is done for good. Gone and buried for the annals of time to preserve our memory of the band.

Though things are done with Motörhead, Dee said fans can always look back on the years the band was still around and active for enjoyment.

“I mean, me and Phil wrote great music,” said Dee when asked about playing Motörhead songs alongside Campbell. “But he’s fully involved with his boys. And I’m fully involved with Scorpions. We’re touring a lot. Not right now, obviously, but we’re on the road all the time with the Scorps. So I don’t say no; there’s always possibilities.”
