If you are a fan of punk, horror, and metal, this album is a must-listen. Celebrating Italian horror movies, this release from the punk outfit Killerfreaks pays homage to some of the genre’s classics. The band has taken a significant step by signing with a label and releasing eight new energized tracks, moving away from the usual DIY routines.

One standout track, D.I.L.F. – Dead I’d Like to Fuck, is sung in Italian and provocatively explores the idea of maintaining admiration for a deceased porn star. While this may be off-putting to some, the rest of the album features tracks like Halloween Night and Vampires Suck, dedicated to John Carpenter’s Halloween and the comic strip Zora the Vampire, respectively. Another notable track, Queen of the Ring, is an ode to female wrestlers worldwide, focusing on former WWF champion Chyna, who was also known for her leaked sex tapes.

My favorite track is Pinhead, inspired by the Hellraiser film saga. The seamless crossover of punk rock, metal, and horror is evident in this album, reminiscent of the classic Return of the Living Dead.

For a punk band, signing with a label and adopting a more corporate approach can often be frowned upon. However, with a twenty-year career behind them, it’s fair to say that Killerfreaks deserve the push from a label. This is the first time I’ve heard of them, and their music is, as the name suggests, killer! This release also gives me an opportunity to explore their back catalogue, including the self-released albums Flesh, Blood & Rott’n’Roll (2013) and A Load of Rott’n’Roll (2017).

Score: 7/10
