Chuck Garric proclaims “Proceed with Caution” as Beasto Blanco’s latest offering commences with a vigor that has become synonymous with the band since their inception in 2012. The exceptional dual collaboration of Chuck and Calico Cooper consistently delivers this energy, with Garric adeptly managing guitar duties, akin to his role for Calico’s father, Alice Cooper. Garric’s vocals imbue the tracks with a distinctively gritty texture, while Cooper (Calico, not Alice) seamlessly layers in additional depth, propelling the compositions forward with a force and dynamism that surpasses expectations.
The production, helmed by Chris Harms (of Lord Of The Lost), demonstrates a mastery of grand, expansive, and multi-layered arrangements, evident in the monumental feel of each track. Even quieter moments, such as ‘Kill Us Off with a Smile‘, showcasing Calico’s vocal prowess, possess an immersive quality that beckons to be experienced at full volume. Jan LeGrow’s bass work shines on ‘Slide‘, adding to the gritty sonic landscape that complements Garric’s vocals. It serves as a fitting precursor to ‘Skull Rider‘, a track that lives up to its evocative title, with Calico delivering a performance reminiscent of Lzzy Hale’s prowess.
The undeniable truth about albums of this caliber is that their quality and expertise are self-evident. It is clear that we are in the presence of musicians who not only possess technical proficiency but also a keen understanding of what constitutes a compelling musical composition. This album demands attention, causing delays in critical evaluations as listeners are compelled to immerse themselves fully in its sonic tapestry. We extend our gratitude to the artists for this captivating release, albeit with a hint of jest.
