Led Zeppelin Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of Physical Graffiti With New Live Ep And Deluxe Reissue

Legendary Rock Icons Release Rare Live Recordings from Earl's Court 1975 and Knebworth 1979 on September 12...

Rock legends Led Zeppelin will mark the 50th anniversary of their seminal sixth album Physical Graffiti with the September 12 release of a new Live EP featuring previously unreleased live recordings from two of their most iconic concert performances. The collection will be available on 180-gram 12″ vinyl, CD, and digital formats.

The four-track Live EP showcases the band’s legendary live prowess with “In My Time Of Dying” and “Trampled Under Foot” captured during their historic Earl’s Court performances in 1975, alongside “Sick Again” and “Kashmir” from their triumphant return to UK stages at Knebworth in 1979. While these performances were originally featured on the 2003 Led Zeppelin DVD, this marks their first-ever release on CD, vinyl, and digital formats.

“On the last night at Earl’s Court we played ‘Heartbreaker’, ‘Black Dog’, and a bit from ‘Out On The Tiles’. With the songs from Physical Graffiti we’ve got such a wide range of material,” reflected the late John Bonham about those legendary 1975 performances.

Also arriving September 12 is an updated 50th Anniversary edition of the acclaimed Physical Graffiti Deluxe Edition 3LP vinyl set, now enhanced with a bonus replica promotional poster (443mm x 610mm) from the original 1975 campaign.

The Album That Defined an Era

Originally released February 24, 1975 in the US, Physical Graffiti immediately achieved platinum status and has since been certified 17x platinum. Widely regarded as one of the greatest double albums ever recorded, the 15-track masterpiece spans the full spectrum of Led Zeppelin’s musical genius – from the driving rock of “Custard Pie” to the exotic majesty of “Kashmir” and the funky groove of “Trampled Under Foot.”

“It goes from one extreme to the other but at the same time, it’s very evident that it’s Zeppelin… I love the album and it does work as a double album. There are some real humdinger, roaring tracks,” said Robert Plant.

The album represented a creative pinnacle for the band, featuring new compositions including the epic “Kashmir,” alongside previously unreleased gems from earlier sessions dating back to Led Zeppelin III. Producer and guitarist Jimmy Page’s meticulous attention to sequencing helped create what he envisioned as the perfect double album experience.

“We had enough material for one-and-a-half LPs, so I figured, ‘Let’s put out a double and use some of the material we’d done previously but never released’. I always thought the sequencing of an album was really important and that was part of my role as the producer,” Page explained.

Historic Live Performances

The Earl’s Court recordings featured on the Live EP capture Led Zeppelin at their commercial peak, performing five sold-out nights at London’s premier venue in May 1975. The Knebworth tracks document the band’s highly anticipated return to UK stages in 1979, headlining both nights of the legendary festival after a four-year absence from British soil.
