Croatian rock powerhouse Dino Jelusick has built an impressive résumé over the years. Born in 1992, Jelusick first gained international attention as the frontman of Animal Drive, later stepping onto even bigger stages with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. His collaborations read like a who’s who of rock royalty—Robert Plant, David Coverdale, Michael Romeo, Jeff Scott Soto, Mike Portnoy, Kip Winger, and Khalil Turk & Friends (“Turkish Delight”), among others.

Following the success of his 2023 release Follow the Blind Man, which was hailed as one of that year’s strongest rock albums, fans have been eagerly awaiting the follow-up. That wait ends with Apolitical Ecstasy, a record that proves Jelusick and his band are only getting sharper, heavier, and more dynamic with each release. Across its ten tracks, the band delivers razor-edged hard rock that blends technical skill with undeniable passion.

The opener, “Jaws of Life,” explodes out of the gate with gritty, tight riffing—part groove, part precision attack. Once the solos hit, the track really takes flight. Dino commands the vocals from the outset, channeling that raw, raspy grit and remarkable range he’s known for. His ability to climb through octaves and switch between aggressive and melodic phrasing is effortless, setting the tone for the record.

“Seasons” shifts gears beautifully, offering a slower, more emotional ride that recalls Skid Row-style power ballads. It builds gradually through lush, melodic chords, showing the band’s knack for pacing and atmosphere.

The rhythm section shines on “Groove Central,” where a throbbing bassline drives the song forward while Jelusick’s gravelly delivery keeps things punchy and intense. Meanwhile, “What the Hell Is Going On” offers an intriguing, if brief, detour—an idea that feels like it could’ve evolved into something even more substantial.

The melodic “Fool in the Rain” (an original tune, not a Zeppelin cover) starts slow and soulful before breaking into fiery solos from Ivan Keller and company. It’s a highlight, showcasing the band’s chemistry and Dino’s commanding vocal performance.

Another standout, “How Many Times,” recalls the darker tones of Follow the Blind Man while incorporating a subtle western flair—a bold touch that adds texture and depth. The result is one of the album’s most dynamic and gritty tracks.

By the time the title track “Apolitical Ecstasy” closes things out, it’s clear this is a worthy successor to Follow the Blind Man. The album might start with controlled chaos, but it quickly finds its stride and maintains it through to the finale.

While Dino’s voice remains the undeniable centerpiece, the band around him deserves major credit: the guitars are sharp and inspired, the keyboards add atmosphere and versatility, and the rhythm section provides a thunderous backbone. Together, they’ve crafted an album that manages to sound both classic and refreshingly modern.

In short, Apolitical Ecstasy is everything fans hoped for—a record full of grit, melody, and heart. Jelusick continues to prove he’s one of the most versatile and powerful voices in modern rock, and this release cements his band’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with.
