The irony is rich: immigrants supposedly “taking our jobs”… yet here’s the perfect counterargument. Booze & Glory is a London-based Oi! and street punk outfit founded in 2009 by Polish transplants Mark, Bartez, and Mario. They’ve carved out an international fanbase with their rowdy singalongs, working-class authenticity, and devotion to football (particularly West Ham United), all while staying genuine to their origins. Their sound is deliberately unpolished, high-energy, and welcoming—actively rejecting far-right politics while celebrating diversity. If that confuses certain people… excellent. This band exemplifies what’s possible when the right individuals arrive at the right moment doing exactly what they excel at.
After a six-year gap since ‘Hurricane’, this release arrives like a much-needed relief in today’s troubled times, packed with rousing anthems that serve as an ideal summer escape from everyday troubles. It channels Guy Ritchie’s gritty aesthetic cranked up to eleven, and on ‘Mad World’, you half expect Jason Statham’s distinctive voice to complete the experience. I’m crossing my fingers for a London gig where Statham makes a cameo like Phil Daniels did on ‘Parklife’. Except this is ‘Parklife’ amplified, featuring lyrics about loyalty, perseverance, friendship, and punk’s unashamed, full-throttle lifestyle.
Too many dismiss punk as simplistic music for the untalented, when actually punk is people’s music—uniting us, rallying us toward shared causes we didn’t even realize needed fighting for. Booze & Glory embody this precisely, bringing their unique perspective as Polish migrants navigating London life. They’ve weathered hardships, persisted through challenges, and ultimately succeeded—something their discography captures beautifully.
‘Family Isn’t Always Blood’, which incorporates generous amounts of Irish folk influence, celebrates chosen family with pledges to “stand by your side” as brothers. We desperately need more people like that. There’s plenty to learn from these guys, including their exceptional ability to enjoy life to the fullest!
