Interview with Stan Bush (Stan Bush, Boulder) (Vocals, Guitar)

I always loved the Beatles and Motown stuff and Led Zeppelin, I was also a big fan of Joe Walsh’s early work with The James Gang. I met him...

Myglobalmind Webzine interview with Stan Bush (Guitar, Singer, Songwriter) conducted on August, 19, 2010

Interviewed by Denys (Site Founder/Senior Staff Writer) Myglobalmind Webzine

Myglobalmind: Hiya Stan!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to share some thoughts with us on your new record and music in general!!!.

Stan: It’s my pleasure. I appreciate the support!

Myglobalmind: Your new record “Dream The Dream” is set for release on August 27th, exciting times yeah? I’m sure you have been busy with promotions and everything that comes with a new record?

Stan: Yes, it’s been pretty crazy, doing tons of interviews and all, but it is exciting.

Myglobalmind: Hey Stan thanks so much for sending an advanced copy to us here at Myglobalmind Webzine!!! I just wanted to congratulate you on another successful and powerful piece of Melodic Rock and AOR which I consider to be one of your best works to date. Tell me a little about how the recording and creative process for the record came about?

Stan: Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you like the new album. Yeah, we spent a year and a half writing and recording it. The last album “In This Life” received great reviews also, and I was a bit concerned following such a solid album, but I think we have another winner.

Myglobalmind: Talk a little about the overall vibe of the record, I know some stuff is similar structurally to “In This Life”, but the production was more powerful on this one and the songs date back to some the classic aor sound of the 80’s. Was this the sound you we’re trying to chase on “Dream The Dream”?

Stan: I called up some of my best songwriter friends to collaborate on this album. I wanted to come up with an important record. Some of the lyrics have a ‘go for it’ message, and some are about life, love and a search for meaning.

Myglobalmind: You got a chance to work with some very talented producers, people like Holger Fath who also played guitars on the record and Curt Cuomo, how did they help shape the new record?

Stan: My producer Holger Fath is brilliant! He’s from Germany but has been here close to 20 years, and we’ve been friends most of that time. He has great arrangement ideas besides being a great guitarist and plays keyboards also. Curt Cuomo (Kiss, Eddie Money) produced and co-wrote three albums with me. Curt is also a really good songwriter. We co-wrote the title track “Dream the Dream”.

Myglobalmind: What do you hope fans eventually get out of “Dream the Dream”, what does it have to offer in your words?

Stan: Well, I try to put out a positive message. I think it started back with “The Touch”. It’s a good feeling to believe in yourself. Each of us has unbelievable power that we don’t even realize. We kind of make our own reality. Some of the other songs are about love situations most of us experience.

Myglobalmind: Good enough. Hey Stan I wanted to let the readers get to know you as a person and musician, I know you grew up in Florida, before actually getting a record label deal with your band Boulder. How did the early Stan Bush as a musician help influence what you are today?

Stan: Growing up in Florida, I was always in bands. We played night clubs all over the south. It was great experience. Then joining an original band in Colorado who got signed after a couple of years led me to Los Angeles. After that band did one album for Elektra Records I kind of went solo, got signed to CBS Records and then to Scotti Bros/Epic Records.

Myglobalmind: After you moved to Los Angeles you began to get involved in motion picture soundtracks, how did the whole deal with “The Transformers” movie come about?

Stan: When I was recording for Scotti Bros/Epic Records, my co-writer Lenny Macaluso wrote “The Touch” and the label got it into “Transformers: The Movie”.

Myglobalmind: I have to say the Transformers songs “The Touch” and “Dare” sorta took on a life of its’ own, and yet is something different in the venue it was presented, I think the message the song portrays in the movie carries on a lot of the same vibe your music does in general. Do you agree?

Stan: Yeah, “The Touch” and “Dare” have a really cool thing about them. I got a lot of fan mail through the years about how the songs touched people in some way.

Myglobalmind: I also wanted to ask you about that fan base, the comic book fan base, I know while some artists may have shied away from that scene, you actually embrace it and stay very active by going to different comic book conventions and giving back to that crowd. How important is it to you to not forget about what was one of the doors that opened the way for you in the business?

Stan: That’s absolutely true. I’m grateful to have fans like that. The Transformers became a cult phenomenon long before Michael Bay got involved with the brand. It’s really cool to be a part of it. The people are really cool!

Myglobalmind: If you weren’t a successful musician, what would you be doing instead?

Stan: Good question. It’s hard to imagine doing anything else.

Myglobalmind: What do you enjoy the most about the music industry and touring?

Stan: Performing live is great. I remember doing shows in Europe and looking out into the crowd and seeing people singing along. They knew all the words! It was really cool!

Myglobalmind: Any present and past influences that still resonate today in the music you write? Anybody famous you have met that still has an impact on your music today?

Stan: I always loved the Beatles and Motown stuff and Led Zeppelin, I was also a big fan of Joe Walsh’s early work with The James Gang. I met him way back when we were recording at a studio in Florida. He had already joined The Eagles and they were huge. It was a real honor to meet him.

Myglobalmind: Any future projects that we can look forward to in the future? and what are the prospects of some live dates?

Stan: Well I’m busy doing promotion at the moment. The U.S. release is September 15th.

I hope to do show live shows in the near future. I may do a European tour as well.

Myglobalmind: Stan you’re a great guy and very accessible for the media to work with, thanks again for all your time and wish you heaps of success on the new record which comes out August 27th. Any final words?, plug what you wish!!!

Stan: I’d like to thank everybody for their support! And please check out stanbush.com
