Phil Campbell is famously known for being the guitarist in Motörhead for over 30 years until Lemmy Kilmister’s untimely passing in 2015, but some might not know he went on to form a new band with his three sons called Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. Together they have released three studio albums and a live album, Live in the North, which came out last October.

With Live in the North, the band returns with a high energy-filled recording that serves as a testament to their strength in kicking ass on stage with original materials and some classic Motörhead tunes thrown in for good measure. Live in the North was recorded post-pandemic in 2021 during a particularly intense show at The Independent in Sunderland, UK. It also serves as the perfect introduction to the band’s new vocalist and ringleader, Joel Peters. This album is dedicated to the fans ahead of their upcoming Spring European tour and festival shows. To add to Phil’s incredible resume, Motörhead recently re-released their 2015 album Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic. Hailed as one of the best, Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic is bonus-packed with two previously unreleased tracks, “Bullet in Your Brain” and “Greedy Bastards,” from those furious sessions, a live performance from the Mt Fuji Festival in Japan in 2015, and audio interview with Lemmy conducted by Motörhead expert Robert Kiewik during the tour. In my candid interview with Phil, he shares the organic approach in which Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons was formed, why the band was fired-up to perform at The Independent for the live album, their new studio album is finished and scheduled for release in September, he misses seeing Lemmy on his left when performing Motörhead songs, shares that Lemmy amazed him with his strength during the recording of Bad Magic despite how sick he was, and wished he had a chance to say good-bye to him properly. Be sure to listen to their discussion, and please follow My Global Mind on Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, and subscribe to their YouTube channel.

Recorded in 2021 during a particularly intense show at The Independent in Sunderland, UK, Live In The North is the first recording to feature the band’s new vocalist Joel Peters. It serves as a document of their live expertise ahead of their upcoming UK tour supporting Black Star Riders and Michael Monroe.

Phil Campbell comments “Get a load of this folks, it’ll blow your speakers! We are happy to release our first ever full length live album! We really wanted something to showcase our new vocalist Joel and our raw live sound to the rest of the world and we had the opportunity to record the set at a packed out, off the beaten track venue in the north of England during the winter of 2021.”
