Kilonova has been causing quite a stir since it erupted out of the North East in 2018. Having put out a critically acclaimed EP in 2019 they have worked their tails off in support of said EP and as a result of some excellent performances they have graced the stages of some pretty big festivals such as Bloodstock and last year’s Call Of The Wild. This EP wholly captures their live energy with five face-melting, arse-ripping thrash-tastic numbers that you will play over and over and never get bored.

Don’t be fooled – the gentle intro to the opener ‘Fragments’ is only there to lure you in. It builds dramatically on Jonny Sloan’s guitar then Steve Rouse absolutely batters his kit and we’re away on a mosh pit-inducing thrasher. Singer Ellen Hill goes from girl-next-door to bitch from hell vocals in a moment. Keep up because this is just the beginning. ‘Burned At The Stake’ starts with an angular riff before Hill tells you about yourself and Sloan along with bass banger Joe Bambrick cut you to ribbons and knocks you senseless. Absolutely brutal! ‘Leeches And Parasites’ gives us a ton of chugging riffage and a huge groove along with some spidery lines from Sloan who then shows his skills again on ‘Fruit Of The Poisoned Tree’ – fluid lines and crunching riffs are juxtaposed by Hill’s sweet melodic voice on the verses but on the chorus she sounds like Satan’s little sister! The final cut is the rapid no-nonsense ‘Bleed By Example’ that will gather the mosh mob in droves no doubt.

I know I’m seeing Kilonova somewhere this summer and I’m looking forward to it. This is Thrash as it should be. Big, bouncy, and brutal. Kilonova has something and on the strength of these excellently produced five songs, I hope they take the next step. This is impressive so pick up a copy and be impressed!
