Interview by Robert Cavuoto
Haken released his tenth album, Fauna, on March 3, 2023, and is touring North America from May 3 to June 3, 2023, in support of it!
The English progressive rock band Haken latest studio release, Fauna, incorporates flourished power, prog, metal, and rock songs combined with incredible storytelling based on animal themes with wonderful shades of “light in the dark.” The band continues to be inspired by their musical past while keeping a keen eye on the future with songs that range from the orchestral and almost operatic-esque of “Nightingale” to the Genesis/Phil Collins-esque “Taurus” to the peaceful lulling of “Beneath the White Rainbow.” The band consists of Ross Jennings [vocals], Richard Henshall [guitar & keyboards], Raymond Hearne [drums], Charlie Griffiths [guitar], Conner Green [bass], and Peter Jones [keyboards].

I had the pleasure of speaking with vocalist Ross Jennings to discuss the album’s musical diversity, how the band came up with the idea of animal-themed songs, the importance of self-censoring song length provided it serves the song, and the new songs fans can expect to hear while they are on tour.
