Luna Kills are from Finland and they formed in 2019. They incorporate Alt and nu-metal along with electronics which are inspired by gaming soundtracks. I’m not a gamer, never have been. I’m not a real fan of nu-metal, and Alt metal I can cope with. This, however, is fantastic. It melds all the aforementioned sounds into a big, bold and belligerent sound that made me turn it right up. Pissed the neighbours off no end!

Kicking off with ‘Love U‘—which ain’t no ballad! We get a good idea of where these guys are coming from. Singer Lotta is one of those who can go from cutesy—butter-wouldn’t-melt—to psycho bitch at the click of a finger. Jeez she puts in a shift and boy she can sing. ‘Leech‘ brings it all again with a massive synth backing and Lotta going from pained to punchy before she goes to murderous on ‘Sadist‘ then the cute ‘Sugar Rush‘ and the oppressive, aggressive ‘Slay Ur Enemies‘. ‘Hallucinate‘ goes hard before the EDM of ‘Waves‘ develops into a huge crushing beast and the equally crushing ‘Get Mad‘. ‘Burn The World With Me‘ is jagged and direct before album closer ‘Fever Dream‘ gives us a dark atmosphere.

This really is not my bag at all; but I just cannot stop playing it. The music crushes but the vocal melodies have a soothing dark quality, and the electronics really add weight and atmosphere. Credit to Lotta who has a bit of Taylor Momsen about her, but she can roar like a lion too all backed by a trio of musicians who are tighter than a duck’s butt.
