I don’t usually review singles but when I when I heard this, I had to put pen to paper. Sabaton are right at the top when it comes to power metal. Their material is factually based war epics that suit the music perfectly. Canon like drums, machine guitars, bombing bass and vocals that call to arms.

‘The Duelist’ starts with a wonderful twin guitar melody before they ease into the riff and Joakim Broden brings his masculine vocals to the fore especially on the chorus as the band behind him provide the perfect backing. It’s heavy and melodic in the way only the Swedes know how. ‘Lightning At The Gates’ is more dramatic and takes its time getting going but when it does it stomps along courtesy of Par Sundstrom’s insistent bass, and the pounding of Hannes Van Dahl’s drums. Those big, bad manly vocals of Broden tell the tale and the guitars of Englund and Rorland provide the atmosphere perfectly.

These two tracks are the precursor to the album titled ‘Legends’ and if the other tracks are anything like this then we’re in for a treat. Can’t wait…hopefully they will tour too!
