With their roots in Dublin, Ireland, the folk metal band Cruachan have staggered their melodic Celtic inspired metal all over the world since 1992. The band are pioneers in the folk metal genre and are recognized as one of the founders of their genre, the band have arguably gone the furthest of all in their attempts to expand this still largely unexplored subgenre. With a brutal but yet delicate mix of traditional Celtic music, pure metal and the use of Celtic mythology in their lyrics, the band have built a large and dedicated fanbase all over the world.

Cruachan - The Reaper

“The Reaper”, the third single from their forthcoming ninth album ‘The Living and the Dead’, is a wonderful blend of the band’s hardest metal riffs and hauntingly beautiful folk and traditional instruments. The video depicts conflict between Vikings and a band of Celtic warriors, and was made by Record Replay Productions with the help of the Viking re-enactment group Jofur Drengir.

Cruachan have already released two other music videos from the new album, with one more yet to come.

The Crow:
This second single from Irish folk-metal pioneers Cruachan upcoming ninth album ‘The Living and the Dead’, is a wonderful blend of the band’s hardest metal riffs and hauntingly beautiful folk and traditional instruments. The song was written to commemorate all those who died in Ireland’s Mother and Baby Homes. Featuring backing vocals from actor Jon Campling (Harry Potter, Final Fantasy), who makes his recording debut on this track. This video was also made by Record Replay Productions.

The Hawthorn:
A track steeped in Irish folklore, ‘The Hawthorn’ is set in Ireland during the 1700’s when the population were heavily under the influence of the Catholic church while still holding onto old Pagan beliefs. It balances the band’s love of Irish traditional folk music with uncompromising metal, a style of music the band helped develop back in the early 1990’s.
