Compound 8 hail from Italy and describe themselves as a death/thrash band with influences ranging from At The Gates, Carnal Forge and Slayer. With only two members I wasn’t sure how connected the music would be – heed my warning – this is like being given an aural MMA style beating. Fast, vicious, brutal and unrelenting!

There’s no intro or pre-amble to opener ‘Convulsion’ it literally grabs you and starts to pummel from the off. You think you get a break – nope. ‘Evil Insight’ continues to batter after bell with a heavy dose of evil riffage and a battery of rampaging drums. There’s no catching your breath on the Slayer-esque ‘Psychotic Nemesis’ or ‘Claustrophobic Sun’. ‘Cryptical Sorrow’ changes to south paw and knocks you senseless with a big growling bass line and some savage flesh ripping guitar lines before ‘Hatestorm’ tags in and continues the beating. Final cut ‘Origin’ has no let until halfway through when it stops abruptly for a standing 8 count then it starts again on a slower pounding death metal groove.

I was given this back in February, but it got lost amongst all the other reviews. No excuse, so my apologies to Erik and Michele. In my opinion music is not just about the sounds or the lyrics it can also be about feeling and energy. The energy displayed on this release is quite astounding as is the brutality. I’m not expecting everybody to understand what this is all about, so to all of you enjoy nasty, vicious, raw, dirty, rapid metal of any sort get your hands on this. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
