Hot damn, what a monster of Heavy Power Metal comes your way via MYSTIC PROPHECY as deliver with impunity their new disc “Hellriot”. While its predecessor “Metal Division” (2020) was rightly showered with positive reviews and reached some acclaim around the Metal community, the new offering is bound to rise higher, faster, and further.
The Bavarian five-piece has been around for a hot minute when they appeared with their huge and fancy “Ravenlord” in their luggage as the opening act for Powerwolf’s tour. Unfortunately, they have taken the road less traveled seems like, as they have not broken higher in the scene, for some reason unbeknownst to me.
Emotional Metal with a powerful sound, a modern production, and well-sang songs with a high sing-along factor is offered here. The deep, rough, sometimes almost rough-sounding voice of frontman R. D. Liapakis is on the one hand certainly a matter of taste, but on the other hand also an absolutely clear sign and (like nothing else in the world) trademark of the band’s sound with the highest recognition value.
MYSTIC PROPHECY can also present fast, great/interesting Power Metal religious songs like ‘Demons Of The Night’ and ‘Rising With The Storm’ convincingly, the more metallic, beautiful and big and wide numbers with the typical choirs and sing-along parts that to me are interesting.
And that from the huge and fancy opener and title song to the huge closer ‘World On Fire’. With titles like the opening singles ‘Unholy Hell’ and ‘Metal Attack’ the name is programmed in your senses ready to bang your head and fist pump. The epic-religious tune in ‘Road To Babylon’ also deserves some attention, but actually, every single track deserves a separate appreciation.
Fantastic Heavy Power Metal that will no doubt end on some top lists for the year. The only thing missing for the top mark is a little more variety and a little longer playing time than the very entertaining forty minutes.
