Crashing onto the scene from the rugged landscapes of Northern Quebec, Backstabber unveils their gripping second EP. Inspired by James Redfield’s ‘The Celestine Prophecy,’ these four tracks intricately weave together, channeling external energies into a relentless cycle of consumption that dismantles its victim from within. The result? Anything but a serene melody.

Launching with a thunderous impact, ‘Harvesting The Weak’ kicks off with a double-picked riff and a battering-ram rhythm that hits with precision and force. It’s not merely about brute force; the band skillfully navigates darkly melodic passages before plunging back into unbridled brutality. The intensity amplifies on ‘Langues Sales,’ where Theriault and St Jacques showcase virtuosic axework, while Hull maintains a breakneck pace with monumental double-kick drum action that guarantees head-snapping reactions. A descent into the shadows unfolds with the dark and sinister ‘Crawling Through Your Bones,’ slowed and intensified, showcasing the sonic sorcery crafted by Cryptopsy’s Christian Donaldson. The drums pack a punch, and the guitars slice through the air like razors. Midway, this track transforms into a majestic death metal odyssey, offering a ride both exhilarating and formidable.

‘Snitches Get Stitches’ emerges as a death/thrash hybrid, embodying a raw, dirty, and delightfully chaotic energy, with added synth strings adding a layer of intrigue.

In essence, four tracks of world-class death metal manifesting in great sounds and unwavering energy. While the tone is aggressive and, at times, dark and bleak, the culmination is a glorious auditory experience. The appetite for more of such sonic mastery is insatiable—more, and soon!
