Josh Todd of Buckcherry on New Album Roar Like Thunder – It’s a Straight-ahead Rock Album From Start to Finish with No Ballads!

Buckcherry Returns with Their Most Electrifying Album Yet...

Interview and Live Photos : Robert Cavuoto

Buckcherry is back with their 11th studio album, Roar Like Thunder, out June 13th via Round Hill Records.

Roar Like Thunder is an electrifying, pedal-to-the-metal thrill ride that captures the band’s raw energy and primal spirit. For their nearly three-decade career, Buckcherry has been the life of the Rock ‘n’ Roll party, and this album solidifies it with songs like “Roar Like Thunder, Talking About Sex,” “I Go Boom,” and “Blackout.” It is designed to be the perfect soundtrack for a wild night of partying and hell-raising.

It was produced and co-written by Marti Frederiksen, who previously produced Black Butterfly and the band’s last three albums. Josh Todd [vocals], Stevie D. [guitar], Billy Rowe [guitar], Kelly LeMieux [bass], and Francis Ruiz [drums] demonstrate just how huge Rock & Roll should sound: fun, dangerous, and fast!

In my interview with Josh, he discusses the goal with this record was to deliver a straight-ahead rock album from start to finish with no ballads or covers. He credits longtime producer Marty Fredrickson, who has worked with the band on several past albums, for helping shape what he believes are some of their strongest albums to date. Todd also talks about the band’s collaborative creative process, driven by constant writing, and dismisses the idea of writer’s block, that is, if you don’t believe it, it can’t happen to you. While he hasn’t tried AI in lyric writing, he is intrigued to learn more about it down the road!

He also reflects on the Buckcherry’s evolution and notes that the band is in a stronger, more stable place than ever, both musically and in terms of lineup. With years of experience behind them, he doesn’t feel the pressure like when he was younger to prove anything is more focused on creating honest, high-energy music that reflects who they are.
