Mudfinger is a German stoner/doom power trio who formed in 2014. They released their first album Psychonaut in 2018 and this is their sophomore effort.

Trinity opens on some hugely easy guitar lines to warm up before the riff gets us going. It’s a steady groove then singer/bassist Marcus starts to roar which reminds me of my favorite stoners Borracho. TBABTO (Two Bongs Are Better Than One) starts on a psyche line then they stamp on the gain pedal for the chorus before they careen into a stoner boogie on Hobo which leads to the psyche/doom of Bumper and a low and slow groove. Flying Whales is a slow and steady start on Timo’s heavily distorted lines before he gets a case of the chugs, and they roll along with the waves before things go a bit southern on Reefer. That southern feel continues on Psychotron where Marcus goes deep on the vocals.

This is what it’s all about. There isn’t anywhere to hide in a power trio so everyone needs to be on their ‘A’ game and these guys definitely brought it. It’s big, dirty and reeks of beer, sweat, whiskey and patchouli and demands to be played at excessively loud volume.
