Rock heavyweights Alter Bridge are back with their second single “What Lies Within,” following the chart-climbing success of “Silent Divide.” The new track serves as another explosive preview of the band’s self-titled eighth studio album, dropping January 9, 2026 via Napalm Records.
“What Lies Within” opens with a driving dual-guitar assault from Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti before the rhythm section of Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips lock into a crushing groove. Lyrically, the song explores the darkness lurking within humanity, with Kennedy delivering the ominous line: “What lies within, beneath the skin, something so dark and foreboding.”

Alter Bridge marks the band’s eighth full-length release and showcases 12 all-new tracks that span 60 minutes of the band’s signature sound—memorable riffs, infectious vocal melodies, and their trademark dueling guitar attack. Produced by longtime collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette, the album was recorded over two months this spring between the legendary 5150 studio in California and Baskette’s Florida facility.
Standout tracks include the epic nine-minute album closer “Slave To Master”—the longest song in the band’s catalog—and “Tested And Able,” which features one of the heaviest intros the quartet has recorded. Several tracks like “Trust In Me” and “Tested And Able” showcase the band’s vocal interplay, with Kennedy and Tremonti trading verse and chorus duties.
Lead single “Silent Divide” continues to climb the Active Rock charts and has accumulated over 2 million views since its release last month.

For over two decades, Alter Bridge have established themselves as one of hard rock’s premier acts. Since their 2004 debut One Day Remains went gold, the band has consistently delivered, scoring six consecutive Top 20 Billboard 200 debuts, selling out arenas worldwide, and amassing nearly 1 billion streams.
Their legacy includes Guitarist Magazine naming “Blackbird” the “Greatest Guitar Solo of All Time,” a #1 Mainstream Rock Chart hit with “Isolation,” and perfect scores from KERRANG! and Total Guitar for 2013’s Fortress. Most recently, 2022’s Pawns & Kings earned acclaim from Classic Rock (4.5/5 stars), with Billboard dubbing them “one of America’s premiere hard rock quartets.”
Comprised of Myles Kennedy (vocals/guitar), Mark Tremonti (guitar/vocals), Brian Marshall (bass), and Scott Phillips (drums), Alter Bridge show no signs of slowing down as they enter their third decade.
