Jupiter Cyclops are from Phoenix, Arizona and they say that they will take you on a humorous mind-bending journey through UFO’s, witchcraft, apocalyptic visions blending 70’s proto-metal, NWOBHM and modern heavy rock.

The title track opens with an astronaut talking to mission control before a twin guitar riff interrupts and they’re away on an energetic NWOBHM influenced stoner rocker with a reverb drenched vocal then for some reason ‘Between World’s’ seems to have a different mix with everything much bigger and louder. I’m not complaining because the song is superb and proper catchy. ‘Sinful Ways’ has a Thin Lizzy groove then settles down into another dirty rocker before the playful intro to ‘Doomed’ sets us up for 70’s proto-metal banger – Budgie anyone? ‘Down From The Inside’ was obviously mixed at the same time as the opener with everything further back and not as powerful which is a shame because it has the potential to be huge. ‘Chemical Voodoo’ suffers the same fate but again the potential is there. It’s got a great punchy groove and a wonderful riff. ‘Way Down Below’ is a stomper where the vocals follow the riff and guitarist Dustin Lyon fills just for shits n giggles. Final cut ‘Lumerian Nights’ welcomes back the bigger clearer mix on another stomper.

I love this 70’s proto-metal stuff. It’s big groovy and greasy. It’s got metal, stoner and psych all rolled into one big fat dirty sound. A more consistent mix would have been preferred simply it lets the songs down, but I still enjoyed this and will continue to do so. I’ll look forward to what these guys do next because on this evidence they’ve got something special going on.
