German thrash metallers HATCHERY have already began to carve out a pretty respectable fan base even though FORCED TO FIGHT is only their second full length album, following BIRTH OF A BOMB in 2007. The reason that the band is gaining so much momentum is simple really, uncompromising, no-bullshit 80’s inspired thrash metal that doesn’t try and be anything that it isn’t. While a lot of thrash bands these days are adding progressive elements, ‘core elements and modern metal elements to their sound, HATCHERY’S music could have really been released twenty five years ago and the time in between then and now has had no effect on their approach.

Some people may see this as a bad thing, but for me personally I think it’s great. Everything from the music to the artwork, the band’s logo and the photos in the booklet takes me back to a simpler time, a time when metal was metal, simple as that. For comparisons look no further than bands like KREATOR, FORBIDDEN and DESTRUCTION, complete with 80’s inspired high pitch vocals and insanely fast shred guitar work that doesn’t let up for a single second.

Thrash metal die hards will find much to enjoy with songs like LITTLE BROTHER, FORCED TO FIGHT, THRASH METAL UNION and FINAL ESCAPE sounding almost as good as anything that you will hear anywhere else. Another high point is that this is an album in the true sense of the word and not just a bunch of random songs slapped together. The majority of the album follows the same lyrical themes, not so much as to be classed as a concept album or anything like that, just enough so show some continuity and logic to the album.

Those that become accustomed to the intricacies shown in a lot of latter day thrash metal may be a little bit overwhelmed by the all-out assault of FORCED TO FIGHT, but for those of you that still wear denim jackets with thrash metal patches sewn all over them this is a must buy album that you need to get a copy of at any cost. Trash ‘till death!!!
