If you have been paying attention to the Metal Press, then you will have heard of All For Metal. They have released a couple of singles and EPs before this, their debut album. Consisting of two singers – Tetzel aka Tim Schmidt from Asenblut (who is also a weightlifter and strength athlete) and former DeVicious singer Antonio Calanna. Schmidt brings the deeper masculine register while Calanna uses every note in his impressive range. They are backed by an impressive band of relatively unknown musicians, but boy do they rock.

Opening with their signature call to arms ‘All For Metal’ is proper fist-pumping, chest-beating, horn-throwing real metal with a masculine chug and some superb lead lines from both Zanichelli and Pabst. It’s cheesy as hell but guaranteed to get the party started. ‘Goddess Of War’ has a touch of symphonic metal with a huge synth line and big bold riffage before the headbanging battle metal of ‘Born In Valhalla’ and ‘Raise Your Hammer’. Tetzel gets a lone vocal on ‘Hear The Drum’ and then we get a fabulous dual vocal with ‘Run’. ‘Prophecy Of Hope’ is a spoken word interlude with a dramatic backing and the drama continues on the immense ‘Mountain Of Power’ and ‘Fury Of The Gods’. Things get a bit more melodic on ‘The Day Of Hammerfall’ before the huge lighter waving Euro metal ballad ‘Legends Never Die’ takes us out.

I first got into metal at about age 12 or 13 and if I was that age now this would be the be-all and end-all. It’s true metal although with loads of synths in the background it’s got everything and anything a metalhead wants – rapid rhythms, big robust riffs, searing leads, both masculine and screaming vocals plus the songs are catchier than the common cold. Most of all this is fun – F.U.N! Not to be taken too seriously – go see All For Metal and you’ll be bound to have a good time.
