The Dark Horizon tour featuring In This Moment, Motionless in White, From Ashes to New, and Fit For A King came to Huntsville at Propst Arena on Friday, August 11th, and the show was a cinematic experience in itself.
Seems like ages ago when we first covered Motionless in White, at least a few times during Warped Tour and a few dates overseas. The Metalcore veterans now have firmly established themselves as a top bill in the genre. Is not surprising to see them on the road with their friends in In This Moment, they had toured together so many times over the years, you almost expect it. It’s cool to check out this one since openers From Ashes to New are riding high off their successful new album that just came out “Blackout” which has been top ranking the charts the past few weeks. You also get Fit For A King, another pretty heavy Metalcore outfit that brings life with such intensity.
FATN gets things moving early at 6:30 and although their set blows by way too quickly, hits “Nightmare”, “Hate Me Too” and “Panic” all get a play in and the crowd gets into it pretty early. We have mentioned this before about the dual vocals of Matt Brandyberry and Danny Case bring it. One of the bands to add to your Rock/Metal playlist this year. The new album is killer.
Fit For A King comes next and the mandatory headbanging ensues, even a small circle pit gets going something you don’t see that much at this arena. Some neck-breaking pieces come via “Vendetta” and “Reaper”. Dig these guys and their intensity, they stand out some from the over-clouded genre.
In This Moment, the renowned American metal band known for their theatrical performances and genre-blending sound mesmerized the audience with an unforgettable concert experience that left fans in awe.
As the lights dimmed and a hushed anticipation filled the air, the stage was set with an intricate gothic-inspired setup, complete with haunting visuals and intricate props. From the moment the band took the stage, led by the enigmatic Maria Brink, the audience was transported into a world where music and theatrics converged seamlessly.
The performance kicked off with explosive energy, as In This Moment opened with their latest single “The Purge”. The synergy between the band members was palpable, as they flawlessly blended metal, industrial, and electronic elements, creating a dynamic and immersive sonic landscape. Maria Brink’s vocals were a force to be reckoned with, effortlessly transitioning from haunting melodies to fierce screams, captivating the audience with her versatile range.
What truly set this concert apart, however, was the visual feast that accompanied the music. Each song was accompanied by meticulously choreographed visuals, ranging from eerie projections to intricate costume changes that matched the tone of the music. The stage design, complete with props and pyrotechnics, enhanced the overall theatricality of the performance, making it a feast for both the ears and the eyes.
In This Moment’s ability to seamlessly blend heavy music with a theatrical production created a multi-dimensional experience that engaged the audience on multiple levels. From the raw emotion of ballads like “Adrenalize” to the intense headbanging moments during tracks like “Big Bad Wolf”, the band displayed an impressive range that kept the energy high throughout the concert.
Just as you thought the set had come to an end the crowd chanted for one more song. In This Moment is one to never disappoint. With the lights down and a quick set change, the band was ready for their ultimate encore. Maria asked the crowd what song they wanted, “Whore!”, the crowd exclaimed. The lights came on to reveal a giant podium with Maria at the top to give her speech about being told she would never amount to anything and was worthless. They finished the set with their biggest hit “Whore”. During the song confetti and big balloons went0 flying through the air just to add to the excitement.
In the end, In This Moment’s set was more than just a musical performance; it was a journey into a realm of darkness, passion, and artistic expression. The band’s ability to craft a unique and immersive experience through their music and theatrics left a lasting impression on the audience, solidifying their reputation as one of the most captivating acts in the modern metal scene.
After a lengthy clean-up from the intricate stage and production setup for In This Moment, Motionless in White comes on and immediately pumps energy back into the crowd. Chris Motionless comes out firing with the industrial undertones in “Scoring The End of the World” getting the first treatment. Later followed with killer cuts “Slaughterhouse” and “Werewolf”. The pyro all night was lit, and plenty of fire was provided on that night, the same goes for Motionless’s set as they close with “Another Life” and “Eternally Yours”.
The tight musicianship, coupled with the stage personas and the makeup always add an extra layer of mystery and gothic tinge into their set. Give Motionless credit for evolving a bit through the years, and manage to rise through the ranks. Maria Brink mentioned that earlier, years ago when they started from playing small joints to arenas now, pretty damn cool. Is always nice to see bands that had to earn it the hard way, all these bands on this bill are the epitome of grind, they bring it live and just keep doing their thing.
