Candlebox have made the difficult decision to release their final studio album, The Long Goodbye.

The new 10-track collection is ultimately a statement album, a document of a band that somehow survived an era that tragically proved too seductive for some of their peers to remain successful but relevant. The lead single, “Punks,” is a cautionary message to young bands that they won’t be the hot new thing forever. “What Do You Need” charges forward with a slashing guitar riff and rapid-fire drums, while “Elegante” delivers a moody, atmospheric vibe with Kevin diving headlong into creative wordplay, and the band mimics a synth-pop vibe with guitars and drums.

Kevin Martin [lead vocals], Adam Kury [bass], Brian Quinn [guitar], Island Styles [guitar], and BJ Kerwin [drums] are saying goodbye to their friends and fans as they are currently wrapping up a Farwell tour to celebrate their illustrious 30-year career.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Kevin about the importance of releasing this album, the hard decisions to say farewell, what retirement holds, the search to find his love of music, the reason he consistently expends extreme efforts to seek the ultimate expression in his songs, how there will never be another Candlebox album and his thoughts if Grunge movement killed 80s glam and hard rock.
