Karachi is considered to be the most dangerous and violent city in Pakistan. How apt that the country’s only thrash metal band chooses to call Karachi home. It’s also apt that Tabahi translates into English from Urdu as Destruction because these guys just rage out old-school thrash. Formed in 2012 they have knocked out a previous album and a few singles and I think this is their sophomore album.

Opening with the scatter gun rhythm of ‘Breaking News’ they pounce into a classic thrash groove where tight, angular riffage and harsh vocals make it something nasty to bang your head to. ‘Run For Your Life’ goes for it hell for leather and is bound to get the moshers together before the chug fest of recent single ‘Politricks’ brings some Onkel Tom Angelripper style vocals and Sodom-like thrash. ‘Survive Or Die’ has a quirky start before it jets off into classic thrashdom then another single ‘Kingpin’ eases back a bit with a razor-sharp guitar line and some pinched harmonics, more of the same on ‘Fatal Torture’ before the crushing ‘Outcast’. Up to this point, the sounds have been in your face and crystal clear but something happens on ‘Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’ where the mix is poor and muddy which is a shame because this could be a banger. Order is returned on ‘Obsidian’ which chugs along nicely before the final cut ‘F.U.N (Fucked Up Nation)’ brings a bit of groove metal.

Thrash metal from Pakistan – give me more. This is as good as anything I have heard this year and in some cases much better. The production is first class, apart from the one song, plus the songs are well written and performed. The vocals are harsh, but they fit the music perfectly and guitarist Faiq Ahmed is some player, believe me, his riffs punch and cut and his leads are white hot. Like thrash? Get this you will not be disappointed!
