Mick Mars on The Other Side of Mars – I Want to Remain Authentic and Avoid Getting Stuck in the Past!

Legendary Guitarist Mick Mars Rocks the Scene with Long-Awaited Solo Release, 'The Other Side of Mars' ...

Interview by: Robert Cavuoto

The legendary guitarist’s riffs, solos, and devastatingly heavy guitar tone have fueled Motley Crue for four decades of world-conquering, multi-platinum sonic mayhem. Micks’ prolific and innovative playing style changed the face of music and helped revolutionize a new genre of music in the 80s, forging Motley Crue to become a staple on MTV and the radio.

Taking up from where he left off with Motley Crue, Mick is on a mission to resurrect the sanctity of heavy metal to its purest and most accessible form. Fusing elements of rock and blues from his musical idols such as Jimi Hendrix, Mick has created a potent blend of high-powered melodic rockers and hauntingly moody ballads that will evoke the spirit.

Helping him tap into his methodology and madness is Paul Taylor of Winger fame. They magically and successfully marry it without sacrificing the main objective – making great music! Joining the fold are Ray Luzier [drums], Chris Collier [bass], Jacob Bunton [vocals], and Brion Gamboa [vocals] (who contributed lead vocals to two songs). Together, they are shaking the foundation of their metal roots and breaking all the rules to exceed expectations on these eleven songs.

The Other Side of Mars showcases Mick’s ability to hit you in the face with straight-ahead rockers like “Loyal to the Lie,” “Broken on the Inside,” and “Ain’t Going Back,” while providing some moody songs of desperation like “Killing Breed” then finishes you off with a celestial instrumental, “LA Nior.” Mick continues to demonstrate that he still has something to prove with his playing and songwriting.

The Other Side of Mars can be ordered here: shop.mickmarsofficial.com. Available configurations include a 180G LP and CD, signed and unsigned.

It was an honor to interview one of my biggest musical and theatrical influences, Mick Mars, to discuss the musical experimentation that went into making this album, why he never recorded a solo album when he was in Motley Crue, being forward-thinking he has written four new songs for his next album, why the two songs with former Motley Crue singer John Corabi will never see the light of day, and how he plans to write his autobiography backward while on his death bed!
