Upon my arrival to retrieve my pass, I observed a lengthy queue already enveloping the building. Enthusiastic fans, representing each of the bands featured on the bill, eagerly anticipated the forthcoming performances. The lineup boasted exceptional cohesion, igniting my anticipation for what each act had to offer.
Prior to witnessing them live, my familiarity with DeathbyRomy was limited to their latest single, “City Of Angels”. The band graced the stage adorned in leather harnesses and fishnets, accompanied by oversized coats, exuding a gothic yet commanding presence. Fronted by vocalist Romy Flores, their performance immediately captivated the audience, fostering a palpable connection. Notably, the dynamic interaction between fans and bassist Cheska Zaide stood out as a highlight. During the rendition of “2, 4, 6, 8”, Romy engaged the crowd, enlisting their participation while Zaide and guitarist Jayden Hammer distributed pom poms. The ensuing fervor underscored the band’s undeniable stage presence, exceeding my initial expectations. Undoubtedly, DeathbyRomy delivers an unmissable live experience.
Following a swift transition, Caskets, an emerging band from Leeds, assumed the stage. Opening with “Drowned In Emotion”, their infectious energy permeated the venue from the onset. Vocalist Matt Flood showcased vocal prowess reminiscent of their recorded material, prompting fervent singalongs from the audience. The resonance of their music was evident, evidenced by the crowd’s familiarity with every lyric—a testament to Caskets‘ burgeoning appeal.
Crown The Empire, a longstanding favorite of mine since 2012, commanded the stage next. Despite my last live encounter in 2015, the band exhibited unwavering prowess. Frontman Andy Leo orchestrated the audience with finesse, eliciting heightened engagement. The ensuing fervor culminated in an expansive circle pit, propelled by the inclusion of beloved classics such as “The Fallout” and “Makeshift Chemistry”.
Finally, the anticipated headliner Set It Off, music from the Backstreet Boys, initiated a spirited singalong amongst the crowd as their anthems resonated through the venue. Following a dramatic countdown, the band erupted into “Parasite”, igniting the stage with boundless energy. Vocalist Cody Carson’s charismatic stage presence galvanized the audience, while drummer Maxx Danzinger delivered a mesmerizing performance from his elevated drum riser.
A notable highlight occurred during “Partners In Crime”, with guest vocalist Kalie Wolfe of Rivals joining Carson onstage to rapturous applause. Wolfe’s rendition showcased her prowess, seamlessly integrating into the performance. From start to finish, the setlist exuded relentless energy, reciprocated in kind by the fervent audience.
Set It Off‘s masterful performance epitomized the essence of a captivating live show. While the tour may have concluded, anticipation for their return remains a hot item. Keep vigilant for when they go on tour again, as its not to be missed.
