It’s been six years since Mage release their last record, so this is a welcome return for the Leicester stoners.

They don’t waste any time in getting straight into it on ‘Soil For The Worm’. It’s a huge riff and a crystal-clear mix not often heard on stoner records. Singer Tom is laid back and powerful and the rhythm section of Mark and Andy lock in no matter what they’re playing. ‘Devil Be Damned’ ups the pace with a Lizzy-esque feel before the crushing ‘Witch’s Hollow’ follows a mighty groove as they settle into a classic Sabbath line. ‘Summer is rockier then the epic ‘Odin’s Eye’ brings some psych all off the back of Mark’s rumbling bassline and of course it goes through movements before returning to the psych groove. We get some proper heavy stoner on ‘Vino Bambino’ before the closing epic of ‘The Hill’ which gets kinda creepy.

Another fantastic release from Mage who are right up there with the best of British stoner and who celebrate 15 years of existence. Congratulations. Keep Rockin’.
