When a band that Franck Carducci was a member of back in 2010 got the opportunity to play the support slot for one of his musical idols Steve Hackett, a chance conversation between the two set the wheels in motion for this self-released solo debut titled ODDITY. Up until then Carducci had been plying his trade in several bands and had been involved in the recording of several albums, but Hackett encouraged Franck to go out on his own to play and record the type of music he was truly passionate about.

The resulting album ODDITY may not quite have what it takes to blow the average prog rock fan away, but there is a true quality throughout this whole record that makes it very clear the Franck is passionate about this type of music and has spent a lot of time studying it. Each song sounds a little different to the one before it and the musicianship is virtuoistic in places while never drifting too far away as to destroy the sense of melody here. A couple of tracks here have a very pop-rock type accessible sound, none more so than ALICE’S EERIE DREAM, which is features in it’s original eleven minute format and also tacked on to the end as a three minute radio edit bonus track. Lyrically the album heads in many different directions while keeping things in check with the title of ODDITY, everything that is written is just that little bit weird. The very colorful proggy artwork also adds the overall appeal of the album, bringing back memories of those fantastic album covers from MARRILLION etc…

After listening to ODDITY it’s pretty clear that multi-instrumentalist and general prog maniac Franck Carducci should be much more well known than he already is. Any fan of Neo-Prog and seventies acts like early JOURNEY, STIX and YES should definitely be keeping an eye on this guy and should be headed straight to wherever they can go to check out ODDITY in all it’s glory.
