Our first introduction to Mothership was in 2015 when we seen them open up for Corrosion Of Conformity. Blown away would be an understatement! We were standing front and center and got to witness this Texas three piece tear shit up with their brand of heavy Texas stoner rock, turning us into fans instantly.

Since they formed in 2010, this hard rock trio from Dallas Texas has quickly made a name for themselves in the music industry. Kelly Juett, Kyle Juett, and Judge Smith have put out two studio albums (Mothership I and II) and a live album ‘Live Over Freak Valley’. And after a successful tour with Corrosion Of Conformity and Brant Bjork, they got back to recording, and on March 17th, they will hand their fans their third studio album ‘High Strangeness’. We’ve been eagerly waiting for this album to drop.

The songs on this one are well thought out and executed with precision. The production is top notch. One can tell they’ve matured as a band since they released their first album. This might well be their best record yet. That’s saying a lot, as the first two studio albums kicked ass. You’re always hoping that expectations are met with new music, and this one exceeds everything we could ask for. It’s filled with nothing but killer jams. So press that play button, sit back, relax, there’s no boarding pass needed for this voyage, time to trip on the ship! As with their two previous albums, they like to start the journey off with an instrumental prelude. This time it’s the title track ‘High Strangeness’, it’s a great way to open the album and it eases nicely into the song ‘Ride The Sun’, which starts off with a great riff. This song is what defines this album, and this genre of music. This is what it’s all about. Up next ‘Midnight Express’ is a classic ship trip, with the intergalactic riffage & beats & you’d expect from the band.

‘Crown Of Lies’ is the first single from the band on the album. This is one of those tunes you can listen to for days on end and never get tired of it. A mind blower filled with crushing riffs, hammering beats, great vocals, and that guitar solo is insane. The next song, at first thought, was a cover of the Beatles classic. But instead, it’s a new Mothership classic, and the band’s own original song titled ‘Helter Skelter’. Catchy as hell, and filled with the same strong riffs from Kelly, a fuzzy low end from Kyle, and thundering drums from Judge, that are present on this record throughout each and every song.

Ahhhh….Now we get to the song ‘Eternal Trip’, and all we can say is, smoke it if you got it. This trip just took a turn to the chill zone. This instrumental is a cosmic relaxer that will help you catch your breath, make that u-turn for home, and continues the trek into the next tune ‘Wise Man’. Wait… Are you still chillin’ from ‘Eternal Trip’?!? Screw that….Time to wake the fuck up!! ‘Wise Man’ Is a killer tune that has a great vibe, needs to be cranked up to 11, and starts the descent of this ongoing space voyage, which is heading into the home stretch of its journey.
And as they always say, all good things must come to an end, but at least this ends with the killer track ‘Speed Dealer’. Being the final song on this amazing album, the song ends this extraterrestrial cruise, and lands back on earth with nothing but more riffs. This record leaves a lasting memory. But you can change that memory to another reality. Pick yourself up, hit that play button, sit back down, and start this trip all over again. You won’t regret it one bit.

These guys have made some great music in the relatively short time they been around. Like we said, this album was highly anticipated and delivers nothing but greatness, and they’ve given their fans a kick-ass album. We recommend grabbing yourself a CD/Digital Download/ Vinyl, whatever it takes for you to get this album. We pre-ordered the ‘Rapture’ vinyl version limited to 100 as soon as the pre-sale was up. So glad we did since it sold out in 20 minutes.

‘High Strangeness’ is a blend of killer Stoner/ Hard Rock thrills, and the guys nailed it on this one. They’ll be out supporting this, it’s a must see show, filled with nothing but high energy. So while they’re out surfing the globe on the cosmic trail, punch your ticket early so you don’t miss your opportunity to TRIP ON THE SHIP!!
