Interview and Live Photos by Robert Cavuoto
Michael Schenker is about to be unleashed his newest album, Universal, onto the universe on May 27th via Atomic Fire Records.
The universe will never be the same after Michael has put forth this sonic guitar assault. Universal delivers precisely what you would expect from this legendary guitarist; crushing and memorable riffs, tastefully melodic solos, terrific guitar tone, and soaring vocals by Ronnie Romero [Rainbow, Vandenberg], Michael Kiske [Helloween], and Ralf Scheepers [Primal Fear].
After 50 years, Michael is still dazzling fans with his fluid-like playing and bluesy vibrato runs. Songs like the haunting opener “Emergency,” the rock anthem “Under Attack,” and “Wrecking Ball” showcase Michael’s unbridled passion for rock and love of the guitar. Universal continues to strengthen his title as one of the greatest guitar players of our time with his fierce fretboard wizardry, which has influenced an army of guitarists like Kirk Hammett, Randy Rhoads, Dimebag Darrell, and Richie Faulkner, to name just a few. Universal will be available as a CD digipak (two bonus tracks), Earbook (two bonus tracks), vinyl, and digitally. Preorders are available here: https://msg.afr.link/UniversalPR
To celebrate the release of Universal and Michaels’s 50th anniversary of recording, he and his band Ronnie Romero [vocals], Bodo Schopf [drums], Steve Mann [keyboards, guitars], and Barend Courbois [bass] will embark upon on a tour this Fall. The trek will run from September 27th through November 6th.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Michael to discuss the creation of Universal, his affinity for melody-driven music, never repeating himself, why he will never write a career-spanning book, and if he feels he has given his fans everything musically possible! Please be sure to follow My Global Mind on Facebook and Twitter and subscribe to their YouTube channel.
Universal will be released on May 27th on CD digipak (including two bonus tracks), Earbook (CD including two bonus tracks), on vinyl, and digitally. Find preordering options at THIS LOCATION.
