Formed in 2016 in Michigan after the dissolution of the drummer’s thrash band he sought like-minded people through various avenues and Craigslist! He found a trio who would help produce what he wanted. A demo, an EP, and now this debut full-length displays not only the talent on show but also anger and frustration. Hopefully, this will have gotten it out of their systems.
‘A Call To Arms’ is that before the title track lures you with a cough and a shimmering guitar line before it builds and you know its coming and come it does, a huge dose of nasty, angry death metal with an angular riff and some ferocious double kick action. It’s punchy and aggressive and just right for a good old mosh! ‘The Garden Of Disrespect’ starts slowly with Olrich’s bass leading the way before it gets jagged and claustrophobic then ‘Eternity, Please’ just rattles along on a frenzied roll before the old school feel of ‘In Solidarity We Die’ kicks your teeth in. The latest single ‘Arrows For Christ’ is another rattler about an American missionary who went to a remote island illegally in an attempt to preach Christianity. He was killed on his third day there.
Proper metal subject matter. There seems to be some confusion over the title of the next track – I have ‘In This Hell’ whereas the press release says ‘We Are The Devils’ – whichever it is it’s another punchy bruising slab of death metal with a major hint of Black metal for good measure. ‘Soulless’ brings to mind Slayer with a death metal singer, its machine drumming and face-ripping riffs are perfect for the addiction theme of the song. Album closer ‘A War Waging Within’ starts with a devilish intro luring you in before it starts to stomp along like an angry bear.
Nasty, angry, aggressive, and heavy. What’s not to like? Ranging from old-school death metal, black metal, and deathcore, it’s all here plus a shed load of real technical ability and attitude. The future’s bright for Asylence.
