Widespread Panic the Athens, Georgia Rock legends, made their trek by to Huntsville, at the Orion Amphitheater, this time bringing 3 straight days of excellent musicianship and an all-day event in town. The fusion of southern rock, jazz, and blues, and their epic live jam sessions have made them icons in the Live Rock realm. Hailed by many as one of the top bills able to carry the mantle from the likes of Grateful Dead to name one such notable predecessor, the almost now 40 years in the business has left their staples on the industry. A live event by WP is usually an ultra jam party and a reason to celebrate.
Their epic setlists always provide plenty of skilled artwork and musicianship to be had. On another warm and muggy southern night, the crew gets on stage and completely takes over from the onset. Whether are numbers like “Little Kin”, the classic “Space Wrangler”, to the second part of their setlist “All Time Low” and the cover of Tom Petty’s “You Wreck Me”. To listen to the band live is as if they are having a conversation with each other while they go into these epic jam overlays. The visual production on stage, vividly displayed throughout the night, gives the fans even more of a complete experience as the combination of lights and the music brings everything together and perfectly portrays a Widespread Panic night to the fullest.
Known for their spontaneous setlists during the Live shows and never playing the same show twice, the fans truly immersed themselves into the music, the day, the vibes, and everything about the presentation is unique and harkens back to the days of Rock in the ’60s. Called their fans Spreadheads or Panheads, is evident to see the connection between their fans and their music, very visible to also acknowledge the fact the guys have been going strong for so long. This night was another truly spectacular evening at a top-notch venue that keeps on churning out quality live acts.
