It’s a welcome return from Care Of Night five years after their second album, the superb ‘Love Equals War’ which was an AOR fan’s wet dream. The band have gone through a line-up change as well as securing a new label. Mainstays Calle Schonberg, Viktor Ostrom Berg, and Linus Svensson are joined by a new additions Victor Berg and Niklas Svensson Nattfare.
The 80’s come flooding back on ‘Street Runner’ lush synths are layered over a choppy guitar and catchy melody before those synths and guitars lead into ‘Tonight’ where singer Calle Schonberg gives us his full-on Perry/Overland pipes. This guy can sing make no mistake and this song proves just how good this band is with Journey and early FM springing to mind. Ostrom Berg gives us a soaring intro on ‘Caught Feelings’ that settles into another fine melodic rocker before bright keys and a bluesier guitar line bring ‘No One Saves The World Alone’. It’s a ballad of sorts that opines the state of the world. ‘Melanie’ is a pop rockin’ boy meets girl tale that rattles along then ‘Half Of My Heart’ brings the power ballad you’ve been waiting for. ‘Follow Through’ drives along with some superb lines from Ostrom Berg before the second power ballad ‘Wrong’. ‘End Of A Chapter’ is another fine pop rocker that bounces along with another excellent vocal from Schonberg. Stabbing keys and power chords introduce ‘Stay With Me’ before it settles into some classy AOR then final cut ‘You’ve Been Right Here All Along’ is the lighter waver/our song and fine way to close.
Another fine release from Care Of Night. Full of big expensive riffs, 24 carat keys, solid rhythms and world class vocals. The songs are beautiful although some do need time to grow on you, but you’ll get there and it’s all courtesy of a huge crystal-clear production. This is not a project put together by Frontiers but an actual band and hopefully they will get some backing to tour, keep your fingers crossed.
