Metal royalty HELLOWEEN are back and ready to conquer once again. The legendary German powerhouse – boasting 21 gold and platinum certifications and over 10 million records sold worldwide – have announced their explosive new album Giants & Monsters, set to detonate this August.
Following their chart-topping #1 self-titled 2021 release, Giants & Monsters promises to be the band’s most versatile and dynamic offering to date. Mixed at the hallowed Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum, Netherlands (the same legendary facility that has hosted IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, and DEF LEPPARD), this new collection reaffirms HELLOWEEN’s throne at the summit of the metal kingdom.
THE TOKYO TAKEOVER
Leading the assault is the album’s crushing first single “This is Tokyo” – a four-minute anthem built for stadium pandemonium. Featuring the dual vocal assault of Andi Deris and Michael Kiske, the track delivers a chorus engineered for mass sing-alongs and serves as a heartfelt tribute to the band’s deep connection with Japan.
“I’ve always wanted to write this song,” reveals Deris. “Japan plays a special role in my life because I had my first big successes there. I wanted to create a tribute to Japan for a while now and finally found the right lyrics. Because ‘Tokyo’ sounds better than ‘Japan,’ the city stands for a whole country that is very important to me.”
FOUR DECADES OF METAL MASTERY
To celebrate their 40-year reign of terror, HELLOWEEN will embark on a massive global anniversary tour. The European leg kicks off mid-October, with initial dates already selling out at breakneck speed. Additional shows in Madrid and Bochum have been added due to overwhelming demand, featuring an ultimate setlist packed with surprises spanning their legendary catalog.
PUSHING BOUNDARIES
Giants & Monsters showcases HELLOWEEN’s relentless pursuit of sonic perfection. Under the guidance of producers Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward, the band pushed every boundary. Drummer Dani Löble recorded all tracks using three different drum kits to capture the perfect vibe for each song – a testament to their obsessive attention to detail and love of experimentation.
“What keeps motivating us is the fact that we’re extremely different. It generates creative energy,” explains guitarist Michael Weikath. Founding member Kai Hansen adds: “We try not to take ourselves and everything around us too seriously.” Deris concludes: “In the end, we’re just seven guys who want to make music and enjoy the incomparable force that arises when we’re together. HELLOWEEN is way more powerful than the sum of its parts.”
