The British rock band The Struts has been steadily making their mark on the rock scene since their debut album “Everybody Wants” in 2014, which propelled them to international recognition. During a recent conversation with guitarist Adam Slack, he expressed gratitude for the support from alternative rock stations in the United States, which has contributed to their successful tours in North America. The band has been associated with various labels, including “Brit-Rock,” and has drawn comparisons to the legendary bands The Rolling Stones and Queen. Ultimately, they have established a distinctive sound that resonates with a broad rock audience.

The Struts have captivated audiences since their early days, propelled by their Platinum-certified track “Could Have Been Me,” showcasing their enduring, triumphant rock style. With their latest album, “Pretty Vicious,” the British rock powerhouse has channeled the dynamic essence of their live performances into their most focused and exhilarating music to date. Here are our initial impressions…

The vocal delivery in “Pretty Vicious” is expertly executed, allowing Luke’s vocals to take center stage. The slow groove blends seamlessly with the bluesy rock elements. The high-energy pop-rock guitar riffs in “I Won’t Run” possess a lively quality, while the band’s overall performance is exceptionally tight. The fast-paced and infectious anthem “Rockstar” promises to become a mainstay in their live shows for years to come. The classic rock elements shine through in “Remember The Name,” featuring an irresistibly engaging chorus, and Luke’s passionate delivery leaves a lasting impact. Spiller’s songwriting maturity is evident in “Bad Decisions,” revealing a vulnerable and emotional side not previously seen in their work. A commendable effort. “Better Love,” arguably the catchiest track on the record, follows a similar pattern, with a cool introduction and a simplicity that enhances its beauty from start to finish.

This album marks The Struts’ most accessible rock sound, which some might perceive as too mainstream for one’s likings, but it is quite the opposite. The band successfully achieves a more commercially appealing Rock sound, complemented by underlying pop-rock nuances that make “Pretty Vicious” a standout success. Luke Spiller’s mature songwriting and the chemistry between him and guitarist Adam Slack are notable. Overall, it serves as a strong follow-up to their previous work, boasting impressive production and well-crafted compositions. The Struts seem to be reaching new heights, with no indication of slowing down. It’s a far cry from their early days playing to small crowds in a Leamington Spa.
