In the hazy depths of the distant past, I vaguely recall dissecting a prior Psychework masterpiece – a nostalgic journey that dates back to 2016. The mystery of why I missed out on their 2018 release eludes me, but fueled by the brilliance of this current record, I’ve decided it’s a must-have. Intentionally steering clear of revisiting my earlier review, seven years have woven a tapestry of diverse musical tastes, courtesy of the remarkable friendships cultivated during that time. This evolution is significant because, back then, I doubt I would have given this gem a second thought.

Emerging from the shadows with an entrancing prelude, ‘Shape Of A Ghost’ transforms into a sonic behemoth, blending robust power chords and ethereal organ melodies into a symphonic rock opus. Antony Parviainen’s vocals resonate with power, while Otto Narhi’s keyboard artistry weaves mesmerizing hues and flourishes around formidable riffs and unyielding rhythms. The captivating journey begins within the initial seconds. ‘River Runs Red’ unfolds with a luminous, plaintive piano before shifting gears into a powerhouse of power metal, followed by the exotic allure of ‘Kiova’ and the modern metal allure of ‘Interstellar,’ boasting chuggy guitars and punctuating synths. ‘Damage All Done’ captivates with its sublime darkness, while ‘C.O.T.S’ (unfamiliar acronym, by the way) explodes as yet another power metal anthem. The pace mellows and broods with the immense and atmospheric ‘Out Of The Darkness,’ paving the way for the epic curtain-closer ‘Viipuri,’ a stunning, darkly melodic ballad.

This is not just a band but a rising force. The melodies and meticulous songcraft showcase world-class artistry. Each member shines without overshadowing others. Hints of Kamelot (albeit less prog) and Battle Beast provide a glimpse into the multifaceted talent these individuals possess. For aficionados of symphonic/power metal, seize this masterpiece because it radiates pure brilliance.
